Moldova

From Cotnari to the Vrancea hills — Romania's largest wine country.

25 wineriesContinental, moderate (180 – 350 m)Best: June — October

Overview

Moldova is the country's most varied region: sweet, noble whites at Cotnari, the vast vineyards of Vrancea, and the river-cooled slopes of Iași. Cellars here have been in continuous use since the 15th century.

It is also the spiritual home of Grasă de Cotnari and Busuioacă de Bohotin — wines that once travelled in barrels to Versailles and the courts of Poland. The pace of the region matches the pace of the wine.
