The Sub-Carpathian arc — Dealu Mare and Romania's most storied reds.
Overview
Muntenia hugs the southern bend of the Carpathians, an hour and a half from Bucharest. At its heart is Dealu Mare — the Great Hill — a sixty-kilometre ribbon of limestone vineyards that has produced Romania's most decorated reds for two centuries.
What you find here are not statistics but textures: walnut groves over limestone, monastery cellars dug into the slope, growers who still bottle by hand, and a late-afternoon light that turns the entire ridge copper.
