The Olt valley — Crâmpoșie, Negru de Drăgășani, and a quiet renaissance.
Overview
Oltenia, west of the Olt river, is one of Romania's oldest wine countries and one of the quietest. The hills around Drăgășani have been replanted with the native Crâmpoșie Selecționată and Negru de Drăgășani by a new generation of small growers.
These are wines of clarity and salt — Crâmpoșie like sea air, Negru like the inside of a cellar. A weekend here pairs vineyards with monasteries, river drives, and tables where everything was picked that morning.
